Kindergarten 2012-2013

The Kindergarten 2012-2013 year will start in just a few weeks. I'm sure that your child is both excited and nervous. They are not alone! In May, I had my first child, my daughter Stella! As you can imagine I am excited to go back to school and work, but nervous to leave my little one, which I have enjoyed my summer with! So here are a few good tips to prepare your child for Kindergarten and hopefully relieve any anxiety.

1.Have your child do a few practice runs of what the morning will be like. It is important to decide what routines you will have each morning. Plus it will help you decide what responsibilities your child will have and what you will have. Even I do a few practice runs of my morning to make sure that I am out the door on time.

2.Coordinate with friends, if your child is anxious find out if someone they know will be on the bus with them. Can they walk in with your child? I will be waiting for the students by the cafeteria on the first day, so they won't have to navigate to far with so many students walking down the hall.

3.Know what your end of the day arrangements are. Nothing puts more fear in the teacher, which then worries your child, if we don't know what bus your child is going on, or whether they will be picked up at the end of the day. If you are unsure what bus route your child is taking, now is the time to find out.

4.Send your child off with a smile. You may feel sad, worried, or nervous yourself. However if your child sees you smile as they go on the bus or get dropped off at school, they will feel more at ease. It is just fine to shed a few tears after you see them go, because honestly this is an exciting time for you and your child. This is their 1st year of school!!!

See you Soon!!!
