Bullying Awareness Month

Did you know that October is National Bullying Awareness Month. Across the nation schools are working on initiatives to end bullying in school and create positive environments for student learning. At DCS we have a very strong anti-bullying policy and do lots of teaching around what makes for a safe learning environment for everyone.

If your child ever mentions that they are feeling left out, being picked on, hurt, or bullied please bring it to my attention. Some children feel the most comfortable dealing with these situations with their parents or guardians at home and not telling the teacher. NO one has the right to hurt others or make them feel unsafe in school. It is my responsibility to protect your child and make sure that school is fun!

We will be sharing books during the month about how to stand up and help others, asking friends to play, and how to get along with everyone even if we have differences. We will end the month with a school-wide poster contest. Our theme is HERO (H)onesty, (E)mpathy, (R)espect, (O)wn your choices(responsibility). These are our 4 core values at our school and you may have heard them as we shout them out at every assembly!

If you ever need resources about how to help your child with social situations let me know. I have acquired many over the years.
